Youth Summer Programme Volunteer Recruitment

Love Hockey Ireland are hosting a public information event on Sunday 26th April 2015 1pm at The Rink Sports Arena Portadown.

At the event we will be unveiling plans for our Self funded Pilot Youth Development Programme. We are looking to recruit a team of volunteers to help us deliver the various aspects of the programme. The pilot programme is due to operate over a 5 week period this summer, and will be targeted at 8 – 12 year olds.

The pilot programme will focus on bringing young people from all backgrounds together over the 5 week period to learn the sport of Roller Hockey whilst gaining life skills from developing and implementing a fundraising strategy plan to contribute towards the sustainability of the programme.

During this five weeks there will be 14 sessions held. The programme will be reaching out in particular to young people from social economic deprived areas but is open to all 8-12 year olds.

Appropriate training will be provided to all volunteers.

During the 5 weeks their will be 2 sessions per week, we do not expect all volunteers to attend all sessions, and we will work with each volunteer on scheduling.

Details of some of the roles available are shown below:

On-Rink Volunteers

Volunteers must have previous hockey experience and be a minimum of 16 years old to apply for this opportunity. On-court volunteers assist coaches and Site Coordinators with executing practice plans, setting-up drills, and working with struggling kids one-on-one. On-Court Volunteers also assist kids with getting equipment on in the changing room and tying skates.

Off-Rink Volunteers

No previous hockey experience required. Off-court volunteers assist coaches and Site Coordinators with any off-court duties in the changing room or the equipment store. These tasks range from helping kids get equipment on in the changing room, cleaning water bottles, and small player equipment maintenance, “training provided”.

Life Skills Volunteers

The Life Skills Volunteers  will assist the coordinator and the participants with the development, management and implementation of a fundraising strategy which will focus on developing the children’s team work, creativity skills and confidence. The fundraising plan which they will jointly develop will be created to contribute towards the growth and sustainability of the programme.

Sledge Hockey Volunteers

The Sledge hockey volunteers will be actively involved with Love Hockey Ireland’s brand new wheelchair sledge hockey team. There will be a number of roles available for this, anyone interested in getting involved in this new wheelchair sport should make contact with us.
